The Stitchfolk story
Make room for a little more joy.
It started at Grandma’s craft table
Stitchfolk begins with one grandmother and a craft table that never really got cleared. She crocheted, she knitted, she sewed, she worked needlepoint hoops down to the last thread — and she believed a handmade thing carries the maker with it. Half the family’s heirlooms came off that table.
When we gathered up her patterns, we found instructions written the way she talked: plain, complete, and patient. No skipped steps, no “you should already know this.” Stitchfolk publishes that way on purpose — patterns worth making, from her craft room to yours.
Why Stitchfolk exists
A gentler way to find your next project. We believe the best pattern shelf should feel like a well-loved craft table: thoughtfully chosen, easy to browse, and full of possibilities — so the distance between “I want to make that” and your first stitch feels delightfully short.
Whether you are picking up needles for the first time or returning to a favourite technique, you should be able to find a pattern that meets you where you are — without the clutter, gatekeeping, or guesswork.
What we believe
Simple by design. Accessible by default. Joyful at every step.
01 · Simple
Clear patterns, useful details, and a calm path from browsing to making. You spend your energy on the stitches, not on decoding the experience.
02 · Accessible
Honest prices, clear skill levels, and practical resources make it easier for anyone to try a stitch, ask for help, and keep going at their own pace.
03 · Joyful
We choose projects that make you want to begin: a beautiful colour, a new technique, or a small handmade gift that brightens the week.
Rebuilt to be followed, not decoded
Our first customer taught us something we have never forgotten: a pattern that leaves a maker guessing has failed, no matter how pretty the photograph. So we rebuilt the entire catalog for detail and clarity — fuller instructions, checked stitch counts, nothing left to “you’ll figure it out.” If one of our patterns ever leaves you stuck, write to us. A real person reads every message.
Meet the founder
Stitchfolk is run by Bill Morton of Des Moines, Iowa — a maker from a family of makers, keeping his grandmother’s craft-table standard for every pattern we publish. Buy a pattern and you are buying from a small, independent studio that answers its own email.
